I had come straight from work and hadn't even stopped home to walk the dog. After all this was going to be a brief hour long meeting at the most. When I walked up to the coffee shop Benny was standing there smiling and we said our hellos. Within minutes we were chatting and laughing and it seemed as if we had known each other forever. Needless to say the hour turned into several hours and we even went and got my dog (Oliver) to walk him so we could keep talking. During the evening a conversation was had about meeting people and how sometimes you know right away if someone is a significant character in your story. Searching for an adjective to describe these type of people I paused and then said "it's like you know when you meet your lobster".... The moment I said this Benny said the exact same random thing. We stopped and looked at each other in amazement. After a few awkward seconds I started rambling on about how Phoebe from the show "Friends" had described once that lobsters mate for life and when you meet your lobster you know. Benny had gathered this knowledge from the same source and we laughed at how we both had so eagerly thrown it out as truth when our source was so ridiculous.
So that was how it all began. Years later we have been through alot and the scenery has changed a bit. We now live in the burbs and have a mortgage. Neither of us would fit into the jeans we were wearing that night :) and we both sometimes wonder what would have been if we hadn't met our lobster...
